Tech Obsessed: iPad vs. Nook

When I first introduced the "tech obsessed" segment, some of my readers asked that I do a post explaining how I use my iPad and nook.  Since they can both be used as eReaders, I understand why some people might wonder why I have both!

iPad
I mostly use my iPad for internet surfing on the go, apps, reading blogs, reading the news, and catching up on facebook, twitter, and instagram.  Although the iPad can be used for an eReader with Apple's "Books" app, the Kindle app, and the Nook app, I don't like using the iPad for reading books because of the backlight.  Instead of bringing my laptop to class, I tend to bring my iPad because it is lighter, smaller, and it fits in my bag better.  I like to handwrite my notes, but I'll bring my iPad in case I need to look up anything the teacher says.  Because I'm a Spanish major, I frequently have to look up words to translate, so I have a few translation apps on my iPad!

nook
Because I have Nook Simple Touch, essentially all you can do is read and buy books from the Nook store.  This version of the nook has an e Ink display which means that the screen is supposed to mirror the effect of reading a real book.  You can read this kind of nook in the sun and there won't be a glare.  However, it is impossible to use the nook in the sun.  I also prefer the nook for reading because the battery life is amazing.  I've been home for a month and a half and I've only had to charge my nook once.  I read every night before bed and during the day 5 days out of the week.  The nook is also lighter  to hold in your hands while reading.

Conclusion
I use the iPad for apps and the nook for reading.  I do light reading (news, articles, websites) on the iPad, but for books, I would choose my nook any day.

Do you use an eReader?
xoxo,
Rebecca

  1. I had a Kindle Fire, now I have an Ipad. I really liked my Kindle, but I thought that it was too small (it was the first generation). Bought the Ipad and sold my Kindle. I really like my Ipad for reading, I like to do it in natural light. I've never seen a Nook first hand either.

I don't regret my choice on the Ipad.

    Hugs!

  2. I have a kindle, it's the super basic one with out a touch screen. It only allows me to read on it. My iPad is exactly what you use it for....apps and the internet. Smaller version of the laptop for when on the go. :)
