Midweek Motivation

With August just around the corner, it's, unfortunately, time to start thinking about going back to school.  I'll move back to Sweet Briar on August 20th, help with orientation for a few days, and begin my junior year on the 29th!  It will be a whirlwind of a week, but, dare I say it, I'm actually kind of excited to get back to school.  School means routine, money (I work two campus jobs), and friends.  I don't know what more I could really ask for!

With the new school year starting, it gives us a chance to start over, learn from our mistakes, and make the future better.  So regardless of if you didn't do so well last semester, or you fought with a friend over the summer, use the new school year as a motivation to study more and get better grades, rekindle those friendships, have fun, and be happy.

Am I the only one ready to go back to school?

Perfectly Polished For Fall: Part One

Essie recently released their Fall 2013 polish collection.  Not only does this have me looking forward to tailgating, cable knits, scarves, and boots...but dark nails!  I'm not a black polish kind of person, but I love maroons, navy blues, hunter greens, and dark purples!

Vested Interest, The Lace Is On, For The Twill of It, Twin Sweater Set, Cashmere Bathrobe, After School Boy Blazer

I'll have to look in my collection to make sure I don't already have anything too similar, but I think I'll have to pick up Cashmere Bathrobe and After School Boy Blazer!  For The Twill of it has a cool multi-tonal grey/teal shimmer...so that might also make it's way into my shopping cart.

Do any of Essie's fall colors catch your eye?
Check back on Thursday to find out about OPI's Fall collection!

Lancaster Central Market

Today we had a new roof put on our house.  Instead of staying home with a barking dog from all of the noise, my mom and I headed out to Lancaster Central Market to pick up some fruits and veggies for the weekend and see what the Market had to offer.

I had been to Central Market before to stop in for a few things here and there, but I had never looked through the whole market.  It was my mom's first visit, so we spent lots of time just looking around and planning our next visit!

Lancaster Central Market is open Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday.  It is located in the heart of downtown Lancaster near the Fulton Theater.  I just learned that it is the country's oldest continuously operating farmer's market!

Instead of trying to adequately describe the market, I thought I'd share some of the things we saw this morning!  Once again, I brought out my trusty Nikon (I think I should give her a name, because you'll be seeing a lot from her in the coming weeks!) and tried to capture all of the bright, beautiful colors!

In addition to there being a great variety, everything is also priced extremely well!  We brought home enough fruits and vegetables for four people to last us at least to Thursday and spent only $20!

I'm heading back to Lancster "city" to enjoy a community yoga class at Yoga on Orange with Bess from Belles and Bows!

Do you shop at a farmer's market for your fruits and vegetables?
And once again, this is how I savor the good life - locally.

Shutter Bug

Something you probably didn't know about me is that I really enjoy photography.  Yes, I instagram until the sun comes up, but using a real camera is one of my favorite things ever!  I have a Nikon DSLR that I hadn't used for a while.

I never realized that we had a hydrangea bush in our backyard, so I trimmed off a few blooms and put them in an old mason jar!  At first, I had intended to use it as a center piece on our kitchen table, but they were too pretty not to photograph.

So I brought out my DSLR and had a little photoshoot.  I remembered how much I loved using real cameras.  The sound the shutter makes as you snap a picture is so soothing and, for me, it brings back memories of other times that I've used my DSLR.

What are some of your hobbies?  Do you enjoy photography?

WILW: Bess from Belles in Bows

Today I have something very special to share with y'all!  Instead of loving "something," today I'm loving someone.  And she's not just anyone!  She's my best friend, confidante, Lilly buddy, twin, and partner in crime and she has started her own blog!  Bess is now blogging over at Belles in Bows!

Bess describes her blog as "the classy girl's guide to living and dressing well."  That is a perfect description of Bess herself!  Her name might sound familiar as she is the same friend who took the amazing pictures in my header and the photos of me at Rachel's Creperie!

If you like my blog, I can assure you that you'll love Bess's as well!  She is an amazing photographer, which I'm sure y'all will be able to see when you check out her blog!  Join Bess on her new blogging adventure as she moves halfway across the country, starts her senior year in high school, applies for and selects her college, and photographs everything along the way!

Are you a no-reply blogger?

I love when y'all comment on my posts.  I love when you ask questions, give me advice, or just tell me you agree with something I said.  Something I would love to do is reply to each and every one of your comments!

First, let's go through when I mean when I ask if you are a "no-reply" blogger...

When I receive any comments on my blog, blogger automatically sends me an email to let me know.

When my friend Eleanor here from Lilac & Anchor leaves a comment, I can automatically hit reply to that email and answer any question she may have asked, thank her for the comment, or start a conversation.

Howeverrrrrrrr, when many of you reply, instead of getting your email, I get the dreaded noreply-commenter email address.  Therefore, I cannot reply to your comment! :(  If you've been feeling sad because you think I've been ignoring you, let's make sure you're not a no-reply blogger!

At the top right-hand corner of your blogger profile, there's a little toggle arrow beside your name.  Click on that and then click on "blogger profile."

Next click on edit profile...

This is the big one!  Make sure the box next to "show my email address" is checked!  This will make your email address present in your profile!

See!  It wasn't hard at all!  And now I can reply to you and you won't feel left out!

If you have any questions or problems, just let me know!

xoxo,
Rebecca

Salad with fresh vegetables and some ice cream with rainbow jimmies (do you call them jimmies or sprinkles?)

Brought out my SLR, reminisced of memories of Irish Step Dancing, and bought a hot pink carpet for my dorm room

Savoring The Good Life - Locally

As many of you know, this summer I've had an internship with a local lifestyle magazine called Susquehanna Style.  First of all, I love my internship.  I love the work, the people, the experience, the events, the atmosphere, the fun, the everything.  So far this summer, I've been to a cover shoot and two magazine events.  Even though I only go into the office one day a week, it has been an amazing experience so far and I feel like I have learned a lot about how to effectively use social media (hopefully I'll be able to implement these skills into the blog a bit!)

Anyways, the slogan of the magazine is

The magazine features only local businesses, foods, restaurants, photographers, venders, etc, etc.  This has encouraged me to really take advantage of all of the things my local community has to offer.  Lancaster is actually a really extraordinary place.  Once you get past the Amish, manure, horse and buggies, and seemingly endless fields (which actually isn't bad...), it's easier to realize just how much we can take advantage of.

When I said the endless fields weren't actually bad...that's because if we didn't have the endless fields I wouldn't be able to share my favorite part of living the local life with y'all.

I have fallen in love with stopping at the roadside stands to pick up fruits and vegetables.  The best thing is when you go in with no expectations and come out with bags full of corn, eggplant, zucchini, tomatoes, and pretty much anything else your heart can desire.

How do you savor the good life - locally?

Be Thankful

{via my instagram}
Today I'm thankful for pink cardigans, an abundance of hydrangeas in the backyard, banana muffins, my internship, a free frozen lemonade on my Panera card (thanks Aunt Wen!), the Afterglow app, my internet friends who have become real friends, crunchy peanut butter smeared between two pretzels, a 25% off your entire purchase coupon for Michaels the day I was going to go get some craft supplies, and the general beauty of God's green Earth that I observed every morning for the last three days while driving to work at 6am.

There is nothing more beautiful than a Lancaster County sunrise.  I found myself on a back road (well most roads in Lancaster are back roads) at 6am just as the sun started peeking out from behind the hills.  The area I was in is covered by farmland with only a few houses staining the horizon.  If I hadn't been driving, I would have a picture to show.  But one of these days before I go back to school, I'm going to wake up early and take our my real camera to capture this beauty.

What have you been thankful for lately?

Rebecca

WILW: The Little Things

I apologize this post is so late today!  I've spent the last three days babysitting from 6:15am-4pm!  Needless to say, by the time I get home, I want nothing more than to get into bed and stay there until the alarm goes off at 5:30!

Because I've been running around chasing after two crazy boys, I've been enjoying the little things the past few days (and I'm trying to make it a habit!)  Yesterday, I got out of babysitting a few hours early so I savored the extra hours of my afternoon with some iced tea, a mason jar of fresh fruit, and a good book.  (I just started The Summer We Read Gatsby and I already recommend it!)  Today I took the kiddos to the pool.  We were there a few minutes before it opened, so while sitting on my towel under an umbrella, I realized just how blessed I was that I was enjoying a sweltering summer day at the pool with nothing more to worry about than the two boys!

What are you loving this week?!

Plum Paper Designs Planner

A few weeks ago I did a post about picking the perfect planner.  Since then, I've still been debating about which planner to choose!  I've been looking online to see if there were any more options, because as much as I liked the Erin Condren Life Planner and the Whitney English Day Designer, I couldn't see spending $50 for a planner.

The other day, jDl from Preppin' Post Grad posted about a new planner that I hadn't heard of!

First of all, how cute is this?
It's the 2013 & 2014 Planner from Plum Paper Designs.

The best part, in my opinion, about this planner?  The design of the inside is practically identical to the Erin Condren planner....and it's only $30!

There are two options for the weekly view, but option one is verrrrry similar to the EC planner!

Plum Paper Designs has 45 different cover designs, so there is surely to be something pleasing for everyone!  She has anchors, chevron, whales, mustaches, stripes, flowers...everything!  You can also add on additional months and note pages!

I haven't ordered yet, but I'm fairly certain this is the winner!  I just have to choose which cover design..so difficult!
Would y'all like me to do another post when I get it?

Rebecca

Rachel's Cafe & Creperie

The other night my friend Bess and I went out to dinner.  The restaurant selection in our area is kind of slim unless we head into Lancaster City.  Despite my fear of parallel parking, we headed into the city and chose to eat at Rachel's Cafe & Creperie.  Their selection of crepes is crazy!  We each ordered our own savory crepe and then we split a dessert crepe!

I chose the ham & brie crepe for my dinner.  I've had this one before, and it's always good!  Bess had the pizza crepe which look really good, too...I think I'll have to try that next time!  (Hey Bess, This means we need to go back to Rachel's before you move!)  Speaking of which, Bess is moving to Minnesota at the end of the summer, so we're trying to fit in as much friend time as possible before we head our own separate ways.
{via my instagram}
For dessert, without thinking twice, we ordered the ice cream and nutella crepe.  Oh. My. Word.  I'm still dreaming about this!  I already have plans to try my hand at making crepes...and you better believe I'll be trying to recreate this one!

Dress: Joe Fresh, Bag: Large Longchamp Le Pliage, Sandals: Platinum Jack Rogers
Silver Engraved Bracelet: Etsy, Watch: Fossil, Bit Bangle: Fornash
Bess is my friend who took the photos in my header and sidebar, so when I said I had my camera in my bag, she insisted we snap a few shots on our way back to the car.  I'm not a model, but Bess always captures my best angles and doesn't make me look TOO terribly awkward!

What have you been up to these days?

Rebecca

Refresh with a refresher?

I have a little secret... I don't drink coffee. I know, I know.  How can I possibly survive college without the help of many student's closest friend and confidante - coffee?  While my friends are off on Starbucks runs, I'm refilling my Brita water bottle and sucking down water.  Not quite the same level of chic and sophistication as a latte or mocha. :(

However, on those days when I feel the need to drink something besides water...here's what I turn to.

Did you know you can "order" an Arnold Palmer at a lot of restaurants even if they're not advertised?  It's just half iced tea and half lemonade!  You can even ask McDonald's to mix in some lemonade with your sweet tea!

Starbucks' Passion Tea Lemonade tastes a lot like fruit punch.  However, I like to order it unsweetened and add a tiny bit of sugar to taste.

My go-to, however, is a lime refresher.  Essentially, it's water, lime, and a tiny bit of sugar.  But the key ingredient is a bit of iced green coffee.  This is supposedly supposed to give you a "kick" of energy to help you get through the day.  In my opinion, you can't taste the coffee at all!

Do you drink coffee or am I all alone?

Rebecca

Guest Post: Kate the (Almost) Great

Hello, folks, it's me again! You remember, Kate, from Kate the (Almost) Great? Teacher, author, blogger, coffee addict? Ah, that last part seems to ring a bell.
Now that it's July, summer is in full swing. If you're like me, it can be hard to handle the heat. I'm a New England girl, born and raised in Maine. But I'm familiar with the Tennessee heat from my Aprils, Mays, Augusts, and Septembers spent there during my time at Vanderbilt. And now that I'm moving to Nashville full time, I'm going to experience it fully. I handle the heat better now that I've spent so much time in the South, but I still can be a wimp. Here's what I need to handle the heat:
Light cotton maxi dress, like this one from Jack Wills. A complete outfit that will be easy on the body with the swelling accompanied by humidity.
Light cross-body bag, to hold only the essentials and make it easier on the muscles than a larger bag.
Some sort of water container to STAY HYDRATED! (That's wicked important.)
Cute sandals. Easy to wear, looks good, keeps cool.
Sunglasses - help your eyes (and prevent eye wrinkles if they're large enough) by wearing some!
How do you stay cool in this heat? Oh, and come on by my blog and stay in touch!
