Hey y'all and welcome to Dorm 101: Becca's guide to college life! I have a bunch of topics in mind to cover over the next few days, but if there's anything specific you want to pick my brain about, leave it in the comments or email me!
One of the most important things about your dorm room is that you keep it homey and functional. We're going to start today with some ways to keep your room feeling more like home and less like a cinder-block jail, I mean dormitory room.
First, I'd like to make a quick apology to all of my non-college readers. The next two weeks will be dedicated to all things college related, which unfortunately, probably does not apply to you! Hang in there, and come August 19th, life with rMe will be back to regular posts!
1. Painted Canvases
The opportunities are endless with canvases! You can paint anything on them. Whether it be your favorite quote, a chevron design, a Lilly print, or another cute pattern, you can incorporate the colors of your dorm decor and make something that screams me!
2. Clothes Pins
Because most dorms don't allow you to use nails to attach picture frames to the wall, hanging a ribbon or piece of string and attaching clothes pins is a good alternative to hang pictures. You could also print out quotes to hang up on your pins!
3. Letters / Monogram
I'm sure y'all have seen these wooden letters all over pinterest. Personally, mine set is attached to ribbons and I hang them on the wall with 3-M command hooks. The first picture I posted is actually wrapped in fabric! If painting isn't your thing, this is a good alternative! Jo Anns fabric has all kinds of peppy prints, to choose from!
4. Christmas Lights
Even if it's not Christmas, I guarantee you'll find christmas lights in the upperclassmen dorms! My roommate and I had a pink strand of lights that we kept hung (and on..) practically 24/7!
5. Paper Lanterns and Tissue Paper Pom Poms
OH MY WORD. These are so precious! I am definitely ordering a few and having them sent to school to add to my dorm decor for this year! In addition to being super cute, they're also relatively inexpensive! The paper lanterns range in price from $1-3 depending on size and come in every color of the rainbow!
Above all, be creative and incorporate your favorite colors and patterns!
Disclaimer: All of the above pictures are not my own. I found them on pinterest.
How do you decorate your [dorm] room?
I move back to school on the 20th, so I'll be sure to share some pictures of my dorm decor the following day!
