Life Update

Well.  It's been a week since I last posted on this little blog...and if I could explain how this past week has gone, you would understand why!

It all started with a visit to the health center almost three weeks ago.  The nurse practitioner told me I just had allergies, and she encouraged me to continue taking allergy medicine and add in some Tylenol.   A week later, my sore throat had only gotten worse and I could barely swallow!  So I marched myself back into the health center, where the other nurse practitioner told me to start taking Mucinex, in addition to Claritin and Tylenol.  Since I'm no nurse, I trusted their advice and did just that.  A few days later, the pressure in my ears was so severe, that any time I tried to lay down, I immediately started crying!  Saturday morning, I went to the Urgent Care center in town where I saw a very kind and professional doctor.  She told me that I had a severe double ear infection, a sinus infection, and I may have had strep the week before.  Oh, and that if I had waited any longer my ear drums may have exploded.  Luckily, I'm on the mend and feeling much better now that I'm taking the appropriate medications.

If you're squeamish about rodents, this is where you should stop reading... Heather.

After going to the urgent care center, I spent all of Saturday lounging in bed reading and watching movies.  I go to sleep and I'm rudely awaken at 3:30 on Sunday morning by...a mouse scurrying across my dorm room floor.  If you know me at all, you'll know that I don't do well with bugs, pests, and especially rodents.

To put things into the simplest terms, I am scared to death, paranoid, and I haven't been in my dorm room for more than a total of 15 minutes since Sunday.

So if there's ever a good reason to take a blogging hiatus, it might be due to sickness and mice.

xoxo,
Rebecca

  1. Oh my goodness, Rebecca!!! I hope that you feel better, the health center really gets things wrong sometimes (a lot of the time). As for the mice issue...just make a lot of noise when you're in your room! haha

  2. oh my goodness you poor thing! I would have screamed at the top of my lungs if I had been awakened by a mouse of all things! I heard one in my wall a week ago and stayed away from that room until I was sure it went away. I am so glad you're on the mend and can't wait to get together with you and Laurel soon!

  8. I hate student health!! They seriously have misdiagnosed me every time and refuse to write prescriptions for anything, at least at my school. Glad you are feeling better! And maybe look into getting a primary care doc in your school's town, that's my mission for next week!

  11. Oh my gosh, Rebecca!! No wonder I haven't heard from you! I can't believe those nurses have no experience. I''m so glad you got help in the nick of time. I can't imagine something happening further with your eardrums! Please rest and take time for yourself!

  12. I can totally relate to the ear/sinus infection. I was having symptoms for over a week and ignored it (because that's what I do) and then the morning I was supposed to start my summer internship I woke up and my tonsils were the size of golf balls and I couldn't talk or swallow, (not exactly the right impression for your first day.) Needless to say it was a mess. Hope you feel better and dorm infestation gets resolved!
