Spring Cleaning!

I've said at least three times that spring is finally coming...but each time I've said it we've proceeded to have a snow storm.  Not cool, mother nature!  But, this week has a forecast full of temperatures over 70 degrees, so I'm confidence that spring is actually finally coming!

Spring temperatures means I can finally pack away my sweaters and pants and pull out shorts and dresses!  I can't tell you how excited I am to stop layering sweaters and vests and put on some of my favorite Lilly shorts!  Plus, spring attire is so much easier...shorts and a tee?  Done!

In preparation for those days of shorts and tees, I'm doing a thorough spring cleaning of my wardrobe.

I've accumulated a lot of clothes over the past few years, and it's cluttering my life way too much!  I'm going to donate any clothes that are still in good condition to Goodwill, throw away anything that is completely worn out, and fill my closet with the bright hues of my spring clothes that have been hiding under my bed for the eternal winter!

The best part about spring?  Being able to have the windows open!  I love a breeze of fresh air in my room!

Join me in spring cleaning this week?

Show Us Where You Work!

Firstly, thank you so much for linking up with DorothyCarlee, and myself for our Workspace Linkup.  I never imagined so many people would RSVP, and I just can't wait to see everyone else's post!

If I'm working on something that involves my computer, I tend to have my computer on the right side of my desk and the notebooks or my planner on the left hand side.  My desk is in front of the only window in my dorm room.  I use the windowsill to display some of my favorite snail mail.  The Christmas card on the left is from Christina and the monogrammed note on the right is from Mackenzie!

It would be a rare occurrence if you didn't find a To Do list on my desk!  If I have a long list, I'll write it in my Maybook (pictured under my agenda), but if I have a shorter list, or I'm making a sublist of my long To Do list, I'll use a fun notepad!

1. Where is your favorite workspace located? (Library, apartment, dorm room?)
If I'm at school, either the new wing of the library or the desk in my dorm room. If I'm home...usually my bed or the kitchen table!

2. Do you prefer a sleek desk or you more of an “organized chaos” kind of person?
While I'm doing homework or working on projects, my desk tends to get quite crazy. But once I finish up for the evening, or that work session, I insist on putting things away and clearing off the top of my desk.

3. What is your favorite kind of writing utensil?
I tend to use felt-tip markers the most because I like to color code my notes and planner. My favorite are from the brand Stabilo.

4. Show us your calendar or agenda!
Look at the picture above! I use a Plum Paper Designs agenda and a Maybook lined notebook to keep track of meetings, appointments, due dates, and to do lists.

5. And just for fun, what are you looking forward to most about spring?
I can't wait to wear shorts and sandals! I am so over sweaters, wool socks, and boots!

You know I'm getting down to work if my jewelry is on my desk and no longer on my wrists/fingers.  I recently started using the Jawbone UP band to track my sleep and steps.  But you can also program it to vibrate if you are inactive for a certain amount of time.  During those long weekend study sessions, I have it set to vibrate if I'm inactive for one hour.  If it vibrates, I get up and do a chore, take a walk, or take some other kind of study break.  It's been really helpful!

Also on the right side of my desk, I have a mason jar and cup with various pens and pencils.  (Note: Those are my favorite markets - the Stabilo Fine Liners!)  Behind my pens is the souvenir champagne flute from my Junior Banquet (with the cork from the bottle of champagne from that night!).  This is actually only on my desk because I have no idea where to put it without risking it getting broken!  I used to have it on my windowsill, but one too many strong gusts of wind knocked it off.  Luckily, it didn't break, but I don't want to risk that again!

Did you participate in the #showuswhereyouwork link up too?  Be sure to add the link to your post using the widget below!  Also, if you post on twitter or instagram, use the hashtag so we can all follow along!

I'm sorry this post is so late today!  I had a big interview for my dream internship this afternoon, so I spent last night preparing for that!

As some of you may know, I'm hoping to spend the summer in New York City!  I applied for a bunch of internships, but this was the first that I had heard back from.  The interview went well, in my opinion, so now all we can do is wait.  The internship coordinator said it could be a month until I heard back, as they interview the other candidates.

I'm not a patient person, but waiting to hear from this internship and from all of the others I applied at will be a true test of my patience!

Do you have any summer plans?

Beauty of Spring Tag!

When I hopped on Kaitlyn's blog (Keeping Up With Kaitlyn) yesterday and I saw she tagged me for this fun little questionnaire, I knew it was the perfect way to ring in spring.  Unfortunately it snowed yesterday...but thinking about bright nail polish and Jack Rogers certainly made it a little easier!

1. Do you change your makeup when Spring arrives? If so, how?
I don't wear makeup on a daily basis...so I certainly don't have different makeup for each season.  I usually have to change my foundation color as my skin gets more/less tan, but as for everything else, I pretty much keep it the same!

2. What's your favorite Spring fragrance?
I rotate between a few different perfumes, but my favorites for spring are Lilly Pulitzer Squeeze and Lucky Brand Jeans Lucky You.

3. What's going to be your favorite accessory this Spring?
I wear the same watch, bracelets, and earrings every day, regardless of the season, so probably my pearl studs, tortoise shell watch, and Alex & Ani bracelets.

4. What's going to be your most worn item of clothing this Summer?
If we ever get spring this year, I'll be so happy to pull out my Jack Rogers that I'll probably wear them almost every day!

5. What are your top 3 favorite Spring polishes?
Essie Turquoise & Caicos, Essie Mod Squad, and Essie Bikini So Teeny

6. Do you prefer pumps or sandals in Spring?
Definitely sandals!  They're so much more versatile and practical.  I only own one pair of wedges that are seasonally appropriate, but they're also really dressy!

7. What's your favorite Spring jacket?
I don't really wear a jacket in the spring.  If it's a little chilly, I'll usually throw on a cable knit sweater or some other type of pullover.

8. What's your favorite flower?
Peonies!

Asics vs. Nikes

First, a housekeeping announcement.  I don't want to give up blogging, but the goal that I set for myself at the beginning of the year, to blog everyday, just isn't reasonable with my commitments this semester.  Instead of giving up totally, I've come up with a new posting schedule.  I'm hoping to post on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with the occasional post on a Saturday or Sunday.

Onto the fun stuff...so as I mentioned in a previous post, I've picked up a new "hobby" (is it a hobby? Or just something to do? I don't know...) of running.  I used to completely despise running.  Fun fact, my sophomore year of high school, the varsity soccer team was required to run fall cross country and I only lasted like two weeks before I gave up (yet somehow I still played varsity soccer that year...)  Oh yeah, and those spring break training plans that our varsity soccer coach gave us?  They went in my soccer bag on the Friday before break not to emerge until I had to clean out my bag at the end of the season.  So with this background on running, it's kind of hard to imagine that I actually *gasp* enjoy running and working out now!

I'm hoping through my "journey" as a runner, I'll be able to share some tips and workouts to help you get up on your feet, but first, I'd like to address a common misconception.

sneakers
Asics Gel-Excite 2 vs. Nike Free Runs

We all recognize the shoe on the right, the Nike Free Run.  Given the word run is even in the name of the shoe, you'd all thing they're great running shoes, right?  You see people, even celebrities, working out and running in them.

False.  Nike Free Runs are not good running shoes.  Sure they're fine for a walk around the neighborhood, walking the dog, running errands, etc, etc, but the moment you decide to hit the pavement, turn up the tunes, and let the wind blow in your hair, you should probably consider a different type of running shoe.  Nike Free's do not offer the same support and flexibility of an average running shoe.  They are meant to mimic the "barefoot" running trend, so basically, imagine yourself running with no shoes on at all.

Since I saw a lot of people running in Free Runs, I thought they were your average sneaker.  I was an Asics fan all through high school, but over Christmas break when I got a new pair of sneaks, I decided to join the trend and get a pair of Nikes.  What.  A.  Mistake.

They were fine for daily use...going to class, running to Target, the usual, but the moment I stepped on the elliptical, I knew I was in trouble.  I thought, "oh maybe I'm just out of shape so I'm sore all over."  "oh maybe if I just give it some time it'll feel better."  No, ladies (and gentleman?) that's not quite what happened.  Instead, I got intense pains in my feet, shins, and knees.  I had never had this type of pain in the past, and after consulting the trusty internet, I discovered my beloved Nikes were probably the culprit.

And that is the story of how I traded in my trendy Nikes for a pair of supportive, flexible, dependable Asic Gel-Excite 2's.  I took them for their first spin on a short run yesterday morning, and let me tell you, things are going up from here!

What do you look for in a running shoe?
xoxo,
Rebecca

p.s., I'm no doctor or trained professional, so if your Free Runs seem to be working for you, then go on and keep on running.  But if you feel like things might be off, considering changing your shoes or visiting a doctor to see what the problem may be.

Summer Wish List

70 degrees means one thing...I want summer.  And along with that? I want new summery clothes and fun things for my family's 4th of July beach trip.

summer wishlist

I've been fighting an inner Chaco debate.  Are the hideous?  Yes.  Are they comfortable?  Yes.  Do I care what I look like when I'm wearing running shorts and t-shirts?  No.  Do I want a pair of chacos for romping around in this spring and summer?  Yes.

Those Lilly Shorts?  They're the cutest Fox print!  My college's mascot is a vixen (female fox), so I think these shorts need to get into my closet even though the last thing I need is another pair of shorts.

That adorable Harding Lane cross stitch hat?  An American flag...perfect for the 4th of July in Cape May!

A new pair of sneaks for running around town?  My newest "hobby" is hitting the gym, pounding out some miles, or walking the Dairy Loop.  By the end of the semester, these sweet Asics might need to find a place in my closet.

What's on your summer wish list?

Rebecca

It's here!

Woohoo!  It's finally spring!

The weather is warming up, and when I went outside this morning, the sun was shining!  I'm almost tempted to wear a skirt and flats today, but at only 55 degrees, I might be a little chilly.

Unfortunately the beginning of next week will bring more winter weather and temperatures in the high 30's.  However, with high's in the 60's tomorrow and Saturday?  You can bet yourself I'll be breaking out a pair of shorts or two and taking a jog around the Dairy Loop!

How are you celebrating the first day of spring? (And hopefully the beginning of some warmer warmer temperatures!)

Rebecca

Spring, please!

There's only one thing I want right now...

warm weather & summer clothes.

spring, please?
I am so over bundling up with layer upon layer...and if you know me at all, you know how much I hate pants.  I can't wait until the first morning that I wake up with the sun in the sky and weather screaming for skirts and sandals.

I can't wait to trade in my cable knit sweaters for fun Lilly shorts, and my bean boots for Jacks.

What's your "go to" spring outfit?

Rebecca

Time Flies!

My, how time flies when you're having fun...or you're so busy that sleeping takes priority over blogging.  Last week was full of mid terms and projects before break, and the last thing I've wanted to do while I was home was revise my editorial calendar.  I took the week (well almost two weeks by now) off, and hopefully with that break I'll have a new outlook on blogging.

To be honest, I was feeling a little bogged down by blogging...I couldn't come up with creative topics and I just wasn't into it.  Kate sent me a post from The Southern Thing about how Dara felt thought blogging was getting annoying too.  I agreed with her post, but at the same time I realized that blogging is something I really love...so maybe a few weeks off was really what I needed.

To recap you on the past two weeks...

Lilly & Chai / More snow in Sweet Briar / Caffeine and Cupcakes / Winter Mixer / To Do lists a mile long

I like to exercise...my second amendment rights / Taking Lily to see her first Amish people at Central Market / Tomato Pie Cafe in America's Coolest Small Town / Sweet Briar Women do not lie, cheat, steal, or violate the rights of others...unless it's a zombiepocalypse.

What have y'all been up to these past few weeks?
I'm going to start writing and scheduling posts later today...any requests?

xoxo,
Rebecca

Junior Week : Robes

The best part about figuring out who our senior is, whether it be during junior week or on the night of junior banquet, is remembering that they are going to eventually hand down their robe to you!

Here at Sweet Briar, seniors have two different robes.  They have the traditional plain black robe that they wear for graduation and a few other ceremonies throughout the year.  But then they also have their decorated robes.  These robes are passed down each year from a senior to their junior at junior banquet.  Each person adds a little something to their robes to represent themselves.  For instance, on the back of my robe, there is a ghost that looks like the little ghostie I had to wear last semester.  Each Chung Mung baby makes one of these for their mom to put on their robes.

Some of the robes date back to the mid 80's!  It's so cool to look at your robe and try to figure out what each little thing means.  Although I had a little inkling all week, I was so excited to find out that my senior was my Chung Mung mom, Nina!  Although we don't have our lineages robe, I'm determined to add some flowers just in case I pass it down to my baby next year.

Does your school have any traditions like this?

Rebecca
