The second stop on our winery tour of Central Virginia was the Hill Top Berry Farm and Winery in Nellysford. This winery is unique in two ways. First, all but one of their wines are actually fruit wines, meaning they are not made using grapes. They also make meade, which means the wine is fermented with honey. Second, the winery is owned by a Sweet Briar family and they have a strawberry wine called Sweet Vixen in honor of SBC!
If you like sweet dessert wines, you should definitely visit Hill Top. We also appreciated that the person helping us with our tasting told us the kinds of meals that pair well with each wine. For example, with the strawberry dessert wine, he suggested pairing it with something chocolate, brownies or cake. He also suggested melting down some chocolate chips and coating the rims of the wine glasses with chocolate....sounds like a plan, to me!
